Over the past five years the event has become an important fundraiser for Childline and last year over €260,000 was raised for the Childline service. Thousands of people hosted breakfasts – big and small – across the country and the aim this year is to have over 3,500 registrations from schools, creches, companies and families by 8 October. However for those who are not in a position to host a breakfast people can donate to the fundraiser by texting CHILD to 57911.
“Childline is the only 24-hour listening support service for children and young people in Ireland” said Ashley Balbirnie CEO of ISPCC. “We receive over 2,400 calls and messages every day but over 800 calls will still go unanswered. Every cent raised through hosting, attending or donating during Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week will help us answer more calls”.
Alison Healy from Nestle Cereals said today: “At Cheerios we believe in supporting Irish Children, that is why we are continuing and increasing our support of Childline. We want to Help Childline Answer Every Call and that is why we want everyone to say yes to Ireland’s Biggest Breakfast Event”.
Log onto www.childlinebreakfast.ie to register and a registration pack comprising of posters, money box and information on the event will be sent out. Cheerios portion packs are also delivered to each person who host a breakfast”.
